About
Chateau Grand Traverse sits on Old Mission Peninsula, the sliver of land jutting into Lake Michigan that shares latitude with Burgundy and Bordeaux. Founder Ed O'Keefe Sr. gambled on vinifera in 1974 when everyone said Michigan could only grow hybrids — now his son runs the estate and the Rieslings prove the old man right every vintage. The Late Harvest shows what happens when you let fruit hang into November frosts: honey and tropical fruit with citrus backbone, none of that cloying sweetness you find at tourist traps. They've added a patio with live jazz, flatbreads, and a dog menu (yes, really), plus an on-site inn for those who want to wake up in the vines. Walk-ins welcome, but the barrel room tastings are worth booking if you want to geek out on small-lot releases.
