Black Star Farms has been making Michigan wine since 1998 across two peninsula properties—the flagship 160-acre Suttons Bay estate on Leelanau and a smaller Old Mission location. The operation spans wine, spirits, an Inn that just won USA Today's #1 wine country hotel ranking, a working farm with horses, and enough programming (goat yoga, wine-chocolate workshops) to keep you busy beyond the tasting room. They grow their own fruit, including Pinot Gris and Riesling suited to the cool Great Lakes climate. The vineyard views are legitimate, the wedding business is serious, and the cheese spreads get mentioned in reviews. It's ambitious in scale but manages not to feel corporate—maybe because there are actual goats involved.
